Brattleboro Bears alum Owen Malouin has been selected as one of two goalies for the Adirondack Jr. Wings at the prestigious Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament. This young athlete, who previously shined with the Brattleboro Hockey Association Hawks, is not only a standout on the ice with a remarkable record but also a dedicated student, currently excelling at The Bement School. As he prepares to play before thousands of fans in Quebec City, the entire Brattleboro community is cheering him on!

In a nail-biting game on January 28, the Brattleboro Bears fell to St. Johnsbury 5-4, despite a valiant effort that saw them rally from a two-goal deficit in the third period. Senior Gabe Alexander shone with two goals, while freshman Jordan Denny and sophomore Max Madow contributed crucial plays to tie the game before a late shorthanded goal sealed their fate. Coach Eric Libardoni praised the team's resilience, noting they're just a few plays away from victory and remain competitive in every matchup.

In a tough matchup on Wednesday night, the Brattleboro Bears fell to the Burr & Burton Bulldogs, with a final score of 76-47. Despite the loss, standout performances from Noah Moore and Dawson Wheeler, who both hit crucial three-pointers, showcased the resilience of our student-athletes. The Bears continue to build their strength as they prepare to face Hartford on Monday, demonstrating their determination to improve this season.

The Vermont Sports Hall of Fame has announced its 2026 inductees, including Susan Dunklee, an accomplished Olympic biathlete and daughter of Brattleboro's own Stan Dunklee, a cross-country skiing icon. This induction not only celebrates the rich sports heritage of our community but also serves as inspiration for current Brattleboro Bears, reminding them of the heights they can achieve in their athletic pursuits. Even in their struggles, junior Eli Edwards showcased potential, promising a bright future for the Bears as they regroup and refocus.

In a spirited display of community camaraderie, the Brattleboro Police Department triumphed over the Brattleboro Fire Department in their annual softball showdown, successfully defending their title. This event, now in its second year, not only showcased local talent but also raised funds for Frontline Foundations, supporting vital mental health services for veterans and first responders. Cheers to our Brattleboro Bears and the spirit of teamwork that unites our community!

In a tough match against Hartford, the Brattleboro Bears football team battled hard but fell short, ending the game 43-6. Despite trailing 37-0 at halftime, the Bears showed resilience by limiting the Hurricanes to just six points in the second half, while adding six points to their own score. The team looks to regroup as they prepare for their upcoming game against Fair Haven this Friday at 7 p.m.

In an impressive display of athleticism, Brattleboro Bears' Willow Sharma led the boys cross country team to a narrow victory at Mount Anthony, finishing first with a time of 18:32. Meanwhile, the Brattleboro girls soccer team triumphed over Rutland with a 2-1 win, showcasing the strong talent within our local athletes. As the season progresses, the Bears continue to represent Brattleboro with pride and determination!

In a closely contested match on September 16, 2025, the Brattleboro Bears faced off against Windsor, ultimately falling short with a score of 1-0. Despite the loss, athletes like Jasmine Thibault and Soha Rifaiy showcased their determination and skill on the field, exemplifying the competitive spirit of Brattleboro Union High School. As the Bears continue their season, their resilience and teamwork remain a source of pride for the community.

The Brattleboro Bears boys cross country team showcased their talent with a strong performance, securing third place at a meet in Thetford, scoring 71 points. Notable finishes came from Nico Conathan-Leach, who placed second overall with a time of 17:27, followed closely by teammates Jonas Ackerman-Hovis and Willow Sharma, who also had impressive runs. With such dedication and teamwork, the Bears continue to make Brattleboro proud on the trails!

The Nelson Withington Skating Facility opens for the season on October 25, providing a perfect opportunity for Brattleboro Bears to sharpen their skating skills and enjoy winter sports together. With affordable skating sessions at just $4 for students and exciting programs like "FUNdamentals" lessons, it's a great way for current student-athletes and local youth to stay active this season. Don’t miss out on the chance to participate in public skating, private rentals, and stick time while cheering on our talented community of skaters!
