The Brattleboro Bears girls basketball team embarks on an exciting season under new head coach Sarah Landers, who brings a wealth of experience from her coaching tenure at Keene State College and the Monadnock AAU program. With six returning players, including standout seniors Reese Croutworst and Myah Waite, Landers aims to revitalize girls' participation in sports while focusing on versatile gameplay and a strong defensive strategy. The Bears kick off their season at the L&G Tip-Off Tournament, and the local community is eager to support them as they strive for success on the court.

The Brattleboro Bears boys basketball team, under the guidance of Coach Winston Sailsman Jr., is embracing a young and driven roster this season, aiming to establish a "championship mentality." With several returning players and eager newcomers, the Bears are focused on developing their skills and teamwork, as they kick off their season with high hopes following a strong performance in their recent scrimmage. As they face competitive matchups, including a notable home game against St. Johnsbury, the Bears are ready to channel their energy into a successful campaign.

Brattleboro Bears gathered for an afternoon of joy and ice skating at the Nelson Withington Skating Facility on December 6, 2025. Community members enjoyed the festive atmosphere, showcasing the spirit and camaraderie of local athletes and alumni, who continue to make Brattleboro proud both on and off the ice. In an exciting display of local talent, Brattleboro's men's basketball league showcased impressive performances on December 7, with standout plays from several former BUHS athletes. Notably, Kyle Henry led the Elks with 25 points, while Ian Fulton-Black dominated for King's Electric with 29. As the Brattleboro Bears continue to inspire local pride, their alumni shine brightly on the court, elevating the spirit of community sports in Brattleboro.

Brattleboro senior forward Reese Croutworst has made history as the first female soccer player from Brattleboro Union High School to be named to the United Soccer Coaches All-New England team, along with a first team Burlington Free Press all-state selection. Croutworst, who concluded her stellar soccer career as the Bears' all-time leading scorer with 80 goals, was instrumental in helping the team achieve a record-tying 11 wins this season and secure their first playoff victory since 2007. As she transitions to the basketball court, we look forward to her continuing to shine for the Brattleboro Bears.

Brattleboro Union High School ski jumpers shone over the weekend, with Kennedy Leonard and Spencer Jones both clinching first place in their respective classes at the Chip Henry Jumps, while Ava Joyal led the U14 Class at the Nansen Ski Club, showcasing the region's growing talent in the sport. As enthusiasm mounts for ski jumping in Brattleboro, local parents and coaches are eager to inspire the next generation of jumpers.

In a challenging match against Hartford, Brattleboro Union High School's boys basketball team fought hard but fell 60-39, with senior Oscar Korson leading the Bears with 15 points. Despite strong defensive efforts, particularly in the first half, the Bears struggled with turnovers, a factor that ultimately impacted their performance as they look to regroup for their upcoming league game.

The Brattleboro Union High School girls basketball team showcased an impressive performance, securing a decisive 57-18 victory over Bellows Falls, with junior Reese Croutworst leading the charge with 26 points. Coach Karen Henry praised her team's fast start and strong teamwork as they look forward to their upcoming matchup against Fair Haven.

Brattleboro Union High School shines as the community celebrates the Brattleboro Winter Carnival, featuring the exciting Glow Skate event on February 16, where local students and families come together to enjoy winter fun. This annual celebration not only fosters community spirit but also gives BUHS students a chance to showcase their school pride in a lively atmosphere.

Brattleboro Union High School (BUHS) continues to take pride in its athletic legacy as the Vermont Sports Hall of Fame announces its 2025 inductees, including distinguished athletes like Jim Holland, a U.S. National Champion and two-time Olympic ski jumper, who famously triumphed at the Harris Hill competition in Brattleboro. The Hall of Fame not only celebrates individual achievements but also inspires future athletes across the state, including those from BUHS.

The Brattleboro Union High School boys hockey team is gearing up for its annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser on February 18, showcasing both their culinary talents and community spirit while supporting their successful season of 8-4-1. Join them at the Elks Lodge for a delicious meal and a chance to win prizes in the raffle, all served by the dedicated hockey players and their supportive parents!

The Brattleboro girls gymnastics team showcased their talent with a strong second-place finish in their home meet, led by tri-captain Lauren Chute, who excelled by winning the vault and achieving top scores in multiple events. With an impressive team score of 130.950, the Bears are set to compete again on February 8 at the Gibson Aiken Center.
